The wait, in plain words

There is nothing underneath this wait in the way there is underneath the others. No path is being built. No image is being generated. No query is being answered. The only machine involved is the one reading, and that is you.
What earns it a card is the ratio. It is the shortest wait on the site and it stands in front of the largest losses on it, the ones on the open-ended band where nothing sets a ceiling because nothing can be undone.
Underneath, while nothing moves
An onion address is a long run of letters and digits with no meaning inside it. It is not a word, so you cannot read it. It is not a sentence, so you cannot skim it. Your eye has nothing to hold on to in the middle, and the middle is exactly where a substituted address will differ.
The way attention fails on strings like this is well understood by anyone who builds a lookalike. The beginning is memorable because reading starts there. The end is memorable because reading stops there. The middle is a texture rather than a sequence, and a swapped middle survives a confident glance.

- A long string in a small font, where a lowercase letter and a digit can pass for one another.
- Having no stored copy at all, which turns a comparison into a guess and is worth fixing before anything else here.
